Training

To ensure that Group Training needs are met by liaising with Brigade Training Officers and District Instructors and Training Team
To ensure skills maintenance of Operational Group staff
To work with DGO1 to arrange exercises for Operational Group staff.
To assist D13 IMT staff in arranging training for Group staff in IMT based roles

Knox Group Combined Brigades Practical Sessions at SETG
Plan and host quarterly combined brigade practical sessions at SETG for all Knox brigades

Knox Group Major Exercises
Plan and host major structural and wildfire exercises involving all Group Brigades to develop and maintain leaders and firefighter skills

Knox Group Recruits training
To work with Brigades to establish recruiting needs in advance of course scheduling
To develop Knox Recruits training courses as required
To register Knox Recruits Course with District for entry into TRAIN
To lodge Recruit Course Registered Student listing with District for entry into TRAIN
To secure appropriate instructors for all Recruit Modules
To secure external presenters for non-Recruit Modules (E&D, CFA Awareness, Basic IM)
To liaise with BTO’s re availability of stations for recruit modules
To liaise with BTO’s/BMTs re Appliance availability
To secure Group assessors as required for all recruit assessments
To schedule SETG sessions and organise bookings, approvals via District for hot fire training
To secure Group Pad Instructors for all SETG based sessions
To oversee Structural PPC and Boot fitting during Recruit Course
To organise VICFIRE and FIRS visits at completion of recruit course

Knox Group Training Administration
Manage Annual Knox Group SETG Training Budget as allocated by District
To present a Group Training Officer report at bi-monthly Group meetings
To organise and host Group Training Team meetings with Brigade Training Officers

Knox Group Training to Structural level
To work with Brigade Training Officers to identify structural skills gaps at Brigades
Prioritise Brigade Structural nominations for D13 courses as requested by D13
To assist District 13 Structural Instructors to bring fire-fighters to structural level across the Group

Knox Group Training to Wildfire Crew Leader Level
To work with Brigade Training Officers to identify potential Wildfire Crew Leaders
Prioritise Brigade Crew Leader nominations for D13 courses as requested by D13
To assist District 13 Wildfire Instructors to bring fire-fighters to Wildfire Crew Leader across Group

EMR/District 13 Training/Administration
Attend Quarterly EMR Training Sub-Committee meetings and provide written report on Knox issues
Contribute to the Values statement which exists across D13 Groups and D13 Training
Review new course proposals and assist with existing course development where requested by D13
Represent D13 at Regional/State based level where requested

OT&V Working Party Involvement
Work with OT&V on the development and review of new programs namely:

  • New Recruit and Bushfire Skills program
  • State based F&EM Training Guide

BI-Annual Multi Agency Specialist Appliance Displays
Plan and host the Knox Group BI-Annual Multi Agency Specialist Appliance Displays involving 10 ES Agencies and up to 70 Specialist Appliances
